We are Chris and Laura, both creative people. After successfully running
Cortijo el Moro as a guest house for a number of years, in 2025 we decided to refine our accommodation, turning it into something more exciting and more fitting to our personal interests and values. We welcome you to Cortijo el Moro Art Residency.
Laura, artist, mentor and business owner. Laura's background is rich and diverse, running a ceramics studio in the UK, where she made functional ware and taught classes. Prior to this she established an award-winning coffee shop, gallery and art studios in Kent, England. Laura has shown her work in the Turner Contemporary, Margate, UK, New Designers, London, The Fishslab Gallery, Whitstable, UK, Buinho, Messejana, Portugal, amongst others. Laura has a Degree in Applied Arts, awarded by the University for the Creative Arts, UK.

Arriving in Spain, Chris taught himself how to restore an old cortijo, and he now has a bank of skills to call upon, from, building and plastering, to welding, woodworking, plumbing and pretty much anything else practical! He’s your man for technical support and will, undoubtedly, have that perfect piece of metal you’re looking for, that essential tool you couldn’t bring with you, or the knowledge on how to fix a problem! On the rare occasion that he is unable to help you himself, he will know just the person who can!
We both have a love for travel and when not at Cortijo el Moro you will probably find us in our trusty old motorhome 'Fonzie' (aka Alfonso the Great!) or exploring the back streets of South East Asia.
We are so very excited to meet you, please do get in touch if we can help you with anything further.
Bye for now,
Laura & Chris
